Library Cards & Rules

Library Cards

Library cards are free to all residents in Georgia. If you attend school, own property, or are employed in Georgia, you are eligible for a free PINES library card, valid at participating libraries in Georgia.

Out-of-state library cards may be issued for a $25 annual fee or $12.50 for six months.

Bring a government-issued ID and something bearing your name and current address with you when you apply.

Library card replacements are free so long as the account is in good standing.

Parents or guardians of children under the age of 18 must accompany their child when applying for a card. The parent must sign their child's card and present proper identification.

If your card is lost or stolen, report it to your local library immediately. Replacement cards are free so long as the account is in good standing.

The PINES eCard

The eCard provides access to all digital resources at your local libraries like GALILEO and more!

How Borrowing Works

The loan period for most materials is 14 days. "Lucky Day" books are available for check out 7 days, may not be renewed, and may not be placed on hold.

Books may be renewed twice for 2 weeks at a time in person, by phone, or through the PINES app so long as the book is not on reserve for another user.

Books may be returned to any library or book return box in Georgia within the PINES system.

Overdue Materials

Overdue materials accrue fines at $0.20 per day.

Youth print materials (junior easy - young adult) do not accrue overdue fines. Materials will still be assigned a return date and borrowers will remain responsible for damaged or lost materials.

The first reminder for overdue materials will occur 7 days past the due date. The second reminder will occur 14 days past the due date. A mailed bill for replacing the overdue materials will occur 30 days past the due date.

Lost or Damaged Books

If a book is lost or severely damaged, the borrower's account will be charged for the replacement of the book and an additional $10 processing fee.

Delinquent Accounts

Library materials will not be checked out or renewed to any cardholders with more than 10 overdue books or those who have over $10 in overdue fines.
